One time NFL Most Valuable Player Lawrence Taylor, 51, has been arrested on suspicion of rape.
There is no word yet as to whether Lawrence Taylor has retained a New York criminal defense attorney and a news conference has been scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
At this time, there is not much information available, so stay tuned to this blog as we follow developments. Taylor has not been formally charged as of yet but is under arrest, according to news sources. With details slowly emerging, the speculation is that Lawrence Taylor allegedly beat and raped a 15-year-old girl at a Holiday Inn hotel in Montebello, NY.
Taylor was arrested early Thursday and as such, details remain to be publicized. Details on the victim are slowly emerging. News sources have mentioned that the victim may have been a runaway. There is also mention that a pimp may have been involved.
For those of you who don't follow football, I'll assume you follow Dancing With the Stars and might know of Lawrence Taylor as a contestant on the ABC show last year. For those of you who do follow football, Taylor was MVP for the year 1986 and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1999. A former New York Giants linebacker, New York criminal defense lawyers certainly know his name well, seeing as the current incident was not his first arrest.
In 2001, Taylor was convicted on charges of possessing drug paraphernalia and in 2000; he was on federal probation for filing false tax returns.
Charges are expected late Thursday.
